Links and Info From the Town Hall Meeting

I am copying an email that I received from the Sierra Club as a follow up to attending the Town Hall meeting last Thursday. Please take a look at it and click on the links too.

Dear Friend,

On behalf of the Sierra Club, Environment Virginia, Natural Resources Defense Council, and the many other sponsoring environmental organizations, thank you for attending our Clean Energy Green Jobs Town Hall meeting in Norfolk last Thursday.

Thanks also to our speakers George Hagerman and Tim Wilkins on behalf of the Virginia Coastal Energy Research Consortium, Jim Avery from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), John Esson from the Green Jobs Alliance, Delegate Joe Bouchard, and Kaitlin Parker from Rep. Glenn Nye’s who read a statement on his behalf.

Together we learned that restoring our economic health and protecting our environment are not mutually exclusive. We learned that renewable energy and energy efficiency not only reduce our carbon footprint, but their installation also means good rewarding jobs and educational opportunities for our Hampton Roads community.

But as we also learned from Delegate Bouchard, there are obstacles to creation of that clean green economy. That is why your attendance at our Town Hall meeting was so important. We need you to translate what you learned last Thursday into action – action directed both in the halls of the General Assembly in Richmond and the halls of Congress in Washington, DC.

Please take the following “Follow up” actions now:

Thank Congressman Glenn Nye for supporting the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act which creates good jobs in Virginia. 202-225-4215 is his number. It’s a 1 minute call that is so important as we need Rep. Nye’s continued support on upcoming clean energy legislation. Click here to report your call afterwards.
Governor Kaine is asking the public for input on how to spend Virginia’s share of the Federal stimulus. Go to stimulus.virginia.gov and urge him to support renewable energy generation and green jobs creation here in Hampton Roads that is a win/win for both our economy and our environment.
Please contact your State legislators TODAY and tell them to support energy efficiency programs in Virginia by voting YES on HB 2506 and SB 1248. Tell them that energy efficiency is the cheapest, quickest and cleanest way for Virginia to meet its growing energy demands. Click here to take action NOW!
WE NEED YOUR FEEDBACK! Please feel free to reply back to this email with your thoughts regarding Thursday’s meeting – what you liked, didn’t like, ideas for future meetings, etc. There is a lot of work ahead and we need you to stay involved!

Thank you.
